The Chinese economic miracle
At the present time, China represents a country with extremely active and intelligent foreign politics and a successful economic pattern. Having at present the highest rate of economic development in the world, with extremely ambitious, but at the same time realistic objectives, China, the most populous country on the planet, surprises by having found a way of “cohabitation” of two different economic doctrines: the communist one and the capitalist one. The Chinese government supports foreign investments, these summing up at present approx. 200 billion dollars. Currently, China is placed first worldwide in pit coal production, iron ore production (with approx. 250 mill. tons/a year) and at the same time, it is the number one manufacturer of cereals (wheat, rice), cotton, tobacco, rape and tea. The main economic objective set by the Chinese
government for the 1980-2000 was to increase the gross domestic product fourfold. This being reached five years earlier, China set another, even more ambitious objective: doubling by 2010 the GDP achieved in 2000. The participation of China in the international economic circuit, was facilitated also by being located in the Pacific area. Having an ancient civilization, with important historical relics very well maintained, but also an excellent
quality of services it provides, international tourism has proved to be an inexhaustible source for gains. China gained from tourism just in the past few years approx. 20 billion dollars. The number of foreign tourists visiting the country increased fivefold in the 1983-1995 period. The Chinese economic concept “one country – two systems”, seems to have crossed the
experimental stage successfully, representing at present a true success, but at the same time, a permanent challenge.
