The railway station bridge was inaugurated

The approximately 140 billion lei invested in the reconstruction of the Railway Station Bridge in Sibiu fructified for the people of Sibiu only yesterday, when the officials of the town inaugurated the construction started more than two years ago.

The Railway Station Bridge, issue for the electoral fight at the local level, was finished in proportion of 90%, with mostly local funds – the part the PSD Government engaged to support even now has not been paid. For that matter, this is the official reason for exceeding by 14 months the deadline for finalization initially set for August 2004.

The old bridge which crossed the railway connecting Sibiu with the Gusterita suburb was demolished in 2003, for its advanced state of damage. “Additionally, it couldn’t meet the heavy traffic either. The new bridge supports such type of traffic. The bridge is nearly ready, only the lateral access stairs remain to be finished”, Klaus Johannis declared. Although traffic on the bridge was opened, the last works will be finished in one month approximately, if weather conditions allow. (T.D.)
