Solutions for speed maniacs
At times, aspects reported in the mass-media result in effects. In number 137 of GAZETA de Hunedoara, an article with the title “Drivers of Hell” was published. At that time, it referred to the illegal car races, which represent the delight of speed maniacs, but they are also very dangerous, and many times they end up in a tragic way for the participants. “The article was opportune, since it highlighted something real, that is unauthorized speed races on the arterial city highways. We thought we should support the hobbyists of bolides of huge power and we organized the first competition for amateur drivers, in Hunedoara” – Ioan Staier, the president of the ACR Hunedoara branch declared. The competition, which had the Highway Patrol Service of Hunedoara municipium among the organizers, enjoyed real success.
The “Speed circuit for amateurs – Hunedoara 2005” had participants from among simple people, but also VIPs, such as county councilor Tatiana Vasilescu, a race fan. “We wish to set up a championship, with five or six phases, in Hunedoara, Deva, Brad, Hateg or in Valea Jiului, where there was no car competition organized for more than 10 years now” – Staier specified. Having such contests in an organized way significantly reduces the risk of accidents, remaining that things are performed according to well-defined rules. All car drivers may participate, either professionals or amateurs, with any type of car, the only condition for submission being holding a driver’s license for more than one year. “We will contact the local councils and the highway police, in order to have these races be performed in conditions of maximum security. Therefore, we wish to have a closer relationship with the press, not only for the advertisement of the races in the media, but also in order to clarify for all that it’s better to have them take place in an organized frame, protected against risks, since life is above everything” – the head of the ACR Hunedoara specified.
