GSM antennas denounced
An inhabitant of an apartment building on Mihai Viteazu Avenue denounced at the Sibiu Consumer Protection Office the problems the GSM antennas on his apartment building caused. The man from Sibiu affirms in his complaint that in the past three years, three persons died from cancer, one from leukemia, and another one is severely ill and has been relocated to countryside.
The man from Sibiu accuses that these problems were caused by the electromagnetic radiations produced by the antennas on the building, and three of the persons who fell ill lived on the upper floors. This is the first time Sibiu faces such a situation, but in the countryside, such complaints occurred and it seems a Romanian person ended up in court with a phone company, precisely for this reason. Ilie Mitea, the executive director of the Sibiu Consumer Protection Office, says he will launch an investigation for this purpose, there will be a team of inspectors dealing with this case and will contact the OPC inspectors in other counties who dealt with similar situations. In the respective building there are 44 apartments, with 95 inhabitants. Some of the tenants’ associations accepted the placement of such antennas on their apartment buildings, in exchange for rent the respective companies pay or for works they execute. Likewise, for such contracts, the consent of the inhabitants is needed.Opinions on the effects of these radiations on the human body are divided, but in Romania also there are norms regulating the maximum admitted level of radiation. Moreover, some institutions which have antennas placed on the buildings they work in, pay the employees a “pay rise for antenna”.
