NOKIA invests in Mures

According to the Mures Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, five representatives of the Finnish NOKIA company visited the county last week, expressing their interest in investing in the development of production capacities. The director of operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa , Mikko Huttunen himself was present, along with representatives of the branch in Budapest, which coordinates the NOKIA activity in Romania. The investment is a large one, Vasile Pop says, according to whom the Finnish guys were interested in purchasing a land of at least 10 hectares near Targu Mures, with the possibility to extend it to 100 ha.

NOKIA’s coming to Targu Mures would mean fresh air for the town, since this is a large investment, while the shut-down of AZOMURES might leave 3000 people jobless.

On the other hand, Vasile Pop says, the investment is not certain, since Mures county competes with other counties, and the NOKIA people actually travel around the country to identify the best place for investment.

According to the president of the CCIA, it’s up to the authorities whether or not the intention of the Finnish company becomes real. Targu Mures already lost a series of investors last year, since the authorities were not willing to grant them certain facilities. (R.T.)
