Sibiu throws out its animals
The resolution was adopted already last year. People who fail to submit to these provisions, will pay penalties of one to two million lei, and in case of severe breaches, fees might reach eight million old leis. People of Sibiu intending to buy animals to raise them at least until next year, must be very careful where they live or place the pens and cages. Except for a certain number of streets, raising animals and birds will be prohibited starting January 1st 2005, as a result of a resolution adopted by the Sibiu Local Council. “Raising small animals – except for pigs and sheep – and yard birds is permitted only in the areas settled, under the condition that they are kept in cages or yards well-closed. It is prohibited to raise small animals and birds of any kind in other places than the ones designed for this purpose, hygienic and disinfected, placed at 10 meters the farthest from the apartments and by respecting the sanitary-veterinary norms for the prevention and transmission of illnesses of men and animals”, the Sibiu local councilors voted. The list of such areas where animals may be bred, contains over 100 streets, all situated in the peripheral areas of the town.
