The Godfather at the Finances

On August the 23rd 2005, Sebastian Vlãdescu steps into the political scene, taking the place of the reshuffled Ionut Popescu as head of the Ministry of Finances. One of the first tags Vlãdescu received upon entering the flashlight was “wife thief”. In 2004, the new minister of finances stole the wife of Cristian Boureanu liberal representative. This after being the best man at their wedding four years before. The Dâmbovi]a soap opera finds out about the morality of the one who holds the public money of Romania in his hand.

When the new ministers of the T`riceanu cabinet were announced, following the cabinet reshuffling on August the 23rd, few people have heard about Sebastian Vlãdescu, the person replacing the rebellious Ionu] Popescu in the management of the Ministry of Finances. Good friend of the prime minister he was associated with in several companies and from whom he received a dispensation- since he didn’t have 5 years of service in the field, as required by the law -, in order to occupy the position as head of the BCR Supervision Commission, Vl`descu was catalogued as “wife thief” from the very first days. The Dâmbovi]a soap opera with a Caragialean taste started in year 2000, when Sebastian Vl`descu was the best man at the wedding of Cristian Boureanu and Irina. One year later, the same Vl`descu was the godfather at the baptism of the child of these two, Ioana, the close relations between the two families being based on friendship and business partnership.

But in 2004 things changed, as the future minister profited from the departure of his godson to the United Stated on a scholarship and tightened the relationship with Irina. The relationship of the two became so close, that upon the return of Cristian Boureanu from America, Sebastian Vlãdescu and Irina Boureanu moved together in the Hilton Hotel, abandoning their families. Two divorce processes followed, at the end of which in December 2004, the future minister and the former Mrs. Boureanu got married. After the separation from Irina, Cristian Boureanu started a relationship with top model Valentina Pelinel.

But the story doesn’t end here, since Irina Vladescu, after less than three months of marriage, asks for the separation from her new husband, motivating this by the need to keep a close relationship with Ioana’s father, in order to ensure a proper environment for raising the child.

The conflict between the godfather and the godson did not remain in the family, since on the occasion of the cabinet reshuffling, it was transferred to the political scene. In August, at Vl`descu’s nomination for the position at the Ministry of Finances, Boureanu was the only one of the ten members of the Central Parliament Bureau who objected, arguing that his godfather was not and is not member of the PNL and that in the 2003-2004 period, he characterized T`riceanu as incapable, and the organization as “party of the onanists”.
